John Edwards Should Not Be The Next President
I think any of the three leading democratic candidates (Clinton, Obama, and Edwards) would introduce positive change for the country, but there are major issues with each candidate that would detract from how many swing votes they will get.
Edwards is the most electable because he is a white male. By that I mean there are a lot of people who will not vote for Obama because he is black or Clinton because she is a woman. I think that Edwards is the worst candidate of the three.
A president needs to be emotionally stable and able to make good decisions day in and day out because the president wields so much power an off day could be disastrous. John Edwards' wife has metastatic stage 4 breast cancer and has a 26% chance of living more than five years. It is always very sad when someone is diagnosed with cancer especially when they are as great of a person as Elizabeth Edwards is. Having a sick wife is going to be extremely difficult for John Edwards to deal with. If it progresses further it will require a great deal of his attention as it should. A president needs to invest so much time and energy in running the country that there is very little left for family. One aspect will always suffer.
Would be able to perform as the President of the United States if your wife or husband died of cancer in the middle of your term?

My petition to eliminate the word evil from the dictionary
We call things evil when we do not understand, or when we want to invoke fear in others. I am sick of hearing President Bush and others talking about the evildoers of the world. He most often refers to terrorists, but it is important in the fight against terrorism to know that terrorists are not evil.
It is easy to call them evil because many of the acts they perform are terrible when viewed through our eyes. Most terrorists do not believe what they are doing is wrong because they are a product of their environment. Many people don't realize how different we would be if we lived in different circumstances. Look at this website about the Stanford prison experiment.
"Our planned two-week investigation into the psychology of prison life had to be ended
prematurely after only six days because of what the situation was doing to the college students who participated. In only a few days, our guards became sadistic and our prisoners became depressed and showed signs of extreme stress".
We need to communicate to people that express hate towards Americans and others in order to find common ground. We also need to educate Americans about human behavior so they can understand why other people are different that they are. It does not help when our leaders and media speak of evil.

I have wanted to express my ideas, but have had a fear of being rejected. This is my first post and I plan to post often when I have something to share.
My goal in doing this is to feel and be more connected with the world. Also, I hope that it will eventually lead to improvements in the world. There are so many amazing things that I have seen and experienced that I wish to share. I hope that this is the start to me getting more involved in the world around me.
A few things I will write on soon are: my research interests, getting things done: art of stress free productivity, and what I view as the current state of the U.S. and the world.
I feel like Americans have become spectators of their own lives. So many people disprove of the way the government is acting and yet there are no consequences. I understand partly why this happens because people do not want to risk the lives they have when there is no draft.
If a leader in another country had such a horrible approval rating he would be forcibly removed from office by the citizens of the country. I will go into the rest of my feelings on that subject in another post.
My research interests include human limitations, sleep, and A.I..
